Acupuncture is an ancient system of medicine from China. It is likely that more people have been treated by acupuncture throughout history than by any other formalized system of medicine. The fact that acupuncture is still practiced today demonstrates its effectiveness. Acupuncture can relieve pain, calm tension, improve mental focus, and lift the spirits.

Qi (chi) is our vital energy. We are born with some and then we acquire more from the food we eat and the air we breathe. Acupuncture practitioners recognize that when the flow of our vital energy or qi is impeded or deficient, illness inevitably occurs. By utilizing hair-fine sterile needles placed in specific energy points along the energy pathways, acupuncture stimulates qi, removing impediments and enhancing its flow and quality, allowing us to experience greater health. Sometimes, points are heated with a special herb, Artemesia Vulgaris Latiflora (called moxa), which resembles a brown colored wool. Usually, a tiny cone of moxa is placed on the skin over an acupuncture point, ignited, and removed when the heat is felt. Like needles, moxa revitalizes, reinforces, invigorates, and restores balance and harmony to the vital energy.

Classical Five-Element Acupuncture recognizes that our health and wellbeing are affected by the state of our mind, our emotions and our spirits. When we experience stressors of any kind, our immune system is affected and we may get injured, feel sick, suffer from depression, and generally find life more difficult. Therefore, five-element acupuncture treats more than just physical symptoms, it also treats the whole person -- body, mind and spirit. Five-element acupuncture is unique because it not only treats symptoms, but also looks for the root cause of disease or imbalance. Treatments are designed according to the unique needs of an individual patient. Working in harmony with the laws of nature, five-element acupuncture stimulates the body’s own natural healing response and brings about balance at a deep level.
